The 11th Annual Couch Potato Awards - 0 Comments

BEST LOCAL MINISERIES/TELEMOVIE

Winners: The Last Confession of Alexander Pearce (ABC) / 3 Acts of Murder (ABC)
Readers' choice: A Model Daughter: The Killing of Caroline Byrne (Ten)

"God, we make terrible films," said one judge, scanning the list of nominations. Other judges were more positive. Or at least indifferent. There was praise for Julien Temple's flawed but beautiful Arthur Stace biopic The Eternity Man (ABC) and SBS's Saved ("Claudia Karvan was great," said one judge, evoking his comments of last year and the year before that).

The Killing of Caroline Byrne was a solid effort but the standouts were two murderous period pieces: The Last Confession of Alexander Pearce, a sumptuous, dark drama about the convict who survived a walk across Tasmania by munching on his erstwhile co-hikers, and 3 Acts of Murder, the West Australian drama directed by Rowan Woods (The Boys, Little Fish) and based on the true story of the author who devised the perfect crime only for it to be realised. Both featured excellent performances, clever scripts and stunning visuals.
